The primary focus of the Schmidt Library is to provide research and study spaces at York College. As heavily used campus facility, it is recognized that the library is particularly attractive location for the promotion of events and services offered by other groups on campus. In the spirit of campus community partnership and to facilitate the dissemination of information to library users, the library provides designated bulletin boards in the outer lobby of the library where the promotion of non-library events and services of direct interest to the campus community may be posted with the approval of the Student Activities Office or department or school.

The library does not allow bulk distribution of posters and flyers in the library for the following reasons: 

• In the interest of the environment, the library urges campus and community groups to consider non-paper promotion alternatives (the library has several informational TVs). The bulk of promotional paper materials strewn throughout the library end up in recycle bins before being read. 
• The distribution of flyers in the rest rooms and study tables makes the physical environment messy which becomes a housekeeping issue. 

Exceptions:

• Posters or information about LTS services may be placed in various areas of the library upon approval of the LTS staff. 
• Posters or information that reports a timely maintenance issue(s) in the library for patron safety.
• Posters or information from the Office of the President or Provost, Campus Safety Office or Health Department that reports campus alerts or special information.
