Artificial Intelligence in Research

What's in this guide?

This guide is dedicated to exploring tools and strategies related to incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into the secondary research process. We'll explore:

  • AI tools
  • AI-assisted search strategies
  • Source analysis tools

While there are many different AI tools and models out there, some may require creating an account and others may include paywalls and subscription services. Whenever possible, the tools we discuss here will include a free option. Please practice safe internet strategies and abide by college policies at all times.

What isn't in this guide?

This guide approaches the use of AI from the perspective of identifying and evaluating sources.

  • We will not be exploring generative tools for writing research articles or reports.
  • We will not be discussing using AI for primary research or data analysis.

Tutorial: Artificial Intelligence in Secondary Research

Artificial Intelligence in Secondary Research

In an age where AI is seemingly everywhere, it can be difficult charting a path. We need to be mindful of how we use the tools available to us in order to avoid ethical issues like plagiarism but also to make the process of verifying facts much easier. This all stems from using AI to support the steps you should already be doing in normal research without replacing our own efforts.

In this tutorial you will learn to:

  • Use AI to generate keywords
  • Use AI to help read a scholarly article
  • Use AI to conduct a literature review
  • Get (human) research support from a librarian
