Statistics help us identify trends and evaluate outcomes. Most often this information is collected on a national level through government agencies and is published publicly online.

Bureau of Justice Statistics Government website that disseminates information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of the U.S. government.
Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics Was the compendium of Bureau of Justice statistics from 1973 to 2004. Updated by University of Albany until October 2013.
National Archive of Criminal Justice Data Site that archives and disseminates data on crime and justice for secondary analysis. Home to several large-scale and well known datasets, including the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), the FBI's National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), and the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN).
DOJ Hate Crimes Comprehensive U.S. Dept. of Justice hate crimes website. Offers a centralized portal for DOJ hate crimes resources for law enforcement, media, researchers, victims, advocacy groups, and others. Includes training materials, videos, research reports, statistics, and more.
Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) FBI website that provides annual uniform crime statistics for the U.S., including Crime in the U.S., Law Enforcement Officers Killed & Assaulted, Hate Crime Statistics, and NIBRS.
