Pros:

• Free with your YCP (employee and student) or YCDS (employee only) Google account
• Includes a "deep research" button to search the web based on your prompt
• Export responses into other Google apps like Gmail and Google Docs
• Prompts are NOT used to train Google’s AI models, as long as you use your YCP or YCDS account

Cons:

• Free accounts only have access to a weaker AI model

Beginning July 21, 2025, Google Gemini, Google’s AI-powered assistant, will be available for YCP employee and student accounts and YCDS employee accounts.

• Versatile to fill a range of purposes in the research process
• Easy interface and familiar to the general public

Cons:

• Limited to generic topics and superficial knowledge that do not require high-level expertise
• Web search tool can help in getting up-to-date knowledge, but the search is not limited to the academic literature
• Known to make up or "hallucinate" information

Pros:

• Uses a conversational interface to ask research questions
• Better for medical research than ChatGPT
• Allows for file uploads to guide queries or request summaries
• Suggests follow-up or alternative questions

Cons:

• Often overly fixated on the first search results
• May be less comprehensive for fields outside the medical sciences
• Limit of 5 uploads per day
