Vision Statement

The faculty and staff of Schmidt Library are committed to providing an exceptional and integrated information literacy program throughout the curriculum, outstanding technology infrastructure for information access, strong collections in support of the curriculum, excellent space and services for research and study, and high quality instructional media support. 

Goals and Assessment

The Library has employed user satisfaction surveys as the annual assessment protocol for 16 years.  It is our intent to develop annual goals and focused assessment on the following new and long-standing initiatives. 

Information Literacy and Instruction

  • Ensure that all YCP students are information literate to complete their YCP coursework and to meet success in their chosen careers.
  • Foster collaboration with all faculty and other campus constituencies for integration of cohesive core curriculum literacies.
  • Provide Library research assistance to all college communities.

Library Systems

  • Create and support a comprehensive virtual library environment, integrated with all campus systems.
  • Enhance Schmidt Library web site and discovery tools. 

Collection Development

  • Provide information resources of all types in support of all curricula.
  • Ensure preservation, protection, digitization, and access for all library collections.
  • Maintain strong consortial relationships to expand YCP access to information resources.

Information Services

  • Provide atmosphere conducive to active learning through well-designed user spaces and exceptional customer service.
  • Sustain dynamic environment with state-of-the-art technology for student and faculty teaching and learning.  

Instructional Media

  • Facilitate implementation of and training for course management software, teaching tools, and electronic resources to provide excellent support for teaching and learning.
  • Provide state-of-the-art instructional media to all classrooms.
